xPad - Word processing
xPad is an excellent application that serves great as a word processorFor most writing a word processor. Your notes sit in a sidebar and save automatically when you quit. Way better than stickies or TextEdit.
SpamSieve - Email
SpamSieve is an application for anybody who uses Mail for Mac. After a few days of training, SpamSieve will obliterate junk mail and leave good emails untouched. The app is free for the first 30 days, then worth every penny.
